Introducing Leaf Rider’s dual characters

By September 11, 20122 Comments

This is the first in a set of weekly posts where we will give you a unique insight into how the development of Leaf Rider is going. We’ll speak about the problems we’ve faced, the ideas we’ve got and what we’ve been up to during the past week.

Today we’re introducing a new mechanic: In Leaf Rider you play as 2 leaf characters!

Each leaf has it’s own unique special ability ranging from making it rain coins to protection from lava. For launch we’re aiming for around 8 characters that you will be able to choose from and there will be more released in future updates.

To change characters while playing you simply swipe down on the screen. Each leaf has it’s own score multiplier bar that fills up and you’ll need to switch characters regularly to get the best multiplier and improve your score.

Here is some very early footage of the dual characters in action. There is still a lot of work for us to do improving the special abilities and the multiplier mechanic. We are also looking at other ways to bring out the best of the dual characters in Leaf Rider.

Let us know what you think!

  • Character switching and combo multipliers? Sounds like my kind of thing 😉 It’d be nice to have some flashy effects like a big “Level up!” banner appearing when you build up your multiplier. I noticed there was no sound in the video – do you have sound effects in yet?

Thanks Alistair! We don’t have any sound effects yet but we’re just kicking that side of things off now! The multiplier bars are a fairly early version so you can definitely expect to see some more effects and things like that when we start fleshing and polishing it up more 🙂
